Can you burn a planeswalker?

Asked by r3h0ld3r 14 years ago

I was playing online the other day and tried to Lightning Bolt someone's Venser. However, I was not given the option to target the planeswalker.

It was my understanding that anything that targets a "player" could target a planeswalker as well.

Any idea why I was not able to target the 'walker?

Damage is targeted at the player first, but you can choose to redirect that damage to a PW unless your opponent counters the spell.

Your opponent was misinformed, walkers can be bolted or dealt damage just like anything else.

Three possible reasons:

  1. It was shrouded in some way. This would have been easily noticeable though.
  2. The planeswalker was too "awesome" to be targeted, although this may not be a legitimate reason. My money is on option 3.
  3. They probably haven't done updates to make Venser a "player" as such. Send them a message asking why it didn't work and they will fix it.

Oh I didn't see you were playing online.

Yes, probably a glitch then =/

You need to cast it targeting the opponent, and then it will give you an option while the spell is on the stack to redirect the damage.

Wow, lots of options here...

I didn't realize I had to target the opponent and then redirect it.

Thanks guys.
