Can you kill an opponent's creatures in response to them activating Quest for the Holy Relic or casting Mass Polymorph?

can u kill with a lightning bolt a targeted creature (lets say ornithopter) when a player cracking a quest for the holy relic puts his argentum armor that he searched on it. can u kill it in response?
lets say a guy is casting mass polymorph and exiling his dudes....can u like double lightning bolt them (lets say theyre plant tokens) so that he cant put any creature cards onto the battlefield without paying theyre mana cost because he couldnt exile anything.

Yes, But no. You can respond to the relic being cracked, but not to what creature it goes on.
10/1/2009: The activated ability doesn't target the creature the Equipment will be attached to. It may be attached to a creature with shroud, for example. You don't choose which creature it will be attached to until you actually attach it. Once you choose which creature to attach it to, it's too late for players to respond.

if you are asking if, for example, they have no creatures and 4 counters on Quest for the Holy Relic and you Lightning Bolt or any amount of instant damage to the one creature and are able to do lethal damage in response to Quest for the Holy Relic getting sac'd then yes your instant will resolve before quest for the holy relics ability. but in order to stop this combo you have to be able to kill all their eligible creatures (creatures they control) before Quest for the Holy Relic sac ability resolves because all creatures are eligible after the ability resolves because Quest for the Holy Relic does not target a specific creature so a creature doesn't have to be declared to have the equipment attached until the ability is resolved and at that point it is too late to respond.
with the Mass Polymorph . yes, if you can, in response, kill the creatures at instant speed and the opponent will not have any creatures to exile when the spell resolves

Yes, it is very fun to kill a creature with Disfigure in response to them attempting to equip Argentum Armor . It always makes me happy, I won a game once just by constantly messing with creatures that wanted to be equipped with Argentum Armor . The game lasted 30 or 40 minutes because I didn't draw my Bomb.

yes you can. in response basically means to play before something happens. it goes on the stack and resolves, killing giving his relic no target or less amount of plant tokens
