Can you trick Infiltration Lens with Brass Squire?

Asked by Kalani 13 years ago

Soooo let's say for the sake of example i have a Rusted Relic , a Brass Squire and an Infiltration Lens in play. I attack with the Relic, the opponent blocks and HA, I use Brass Squire to instant speed equip the Infiltration Lens to the Rusted Relic ! The question here is, do i get to draw the two cards? Cause if so, that is too awesome for words.

I can't see any reason why you could not, although the wording on Infiltration lens reads "whenever the creature BECOMES blocked" which I take to mean that when the opponent declares blockers.

So while you could stick the Lens onto the creature after blockers are assigned, I don't think the ability would trigger.

It's kind of like a situation where someone attacks and the defender assigns a blocker. The attacker casts a lightning bolt to kill the blocker, but the creature is still blocked. In order for that to not happen the lightning bolt needed to be cast before the blocker was assigned.

In this case, for you, I think the same applies because of the wording on the Lens.

So, my answer is that you could do the maneuver itself with the squire, but the lens would not trigger. However, there must be a way you could use that same maneuver with a different piece of equipment that would be treacherous! Nice combo idea in the making.

you can play the ability in response to your opponent declaring blockers and per the rules of the stack the equipment is equipped before the blocker is assigned. maybe not sure i'd have to check rules to be sure

@alphacloud ..just no.

on declare blockers step, no one gets priority until all blockers have been assigned. after this the active player gets priority (the attacker).

you cannot play anything in response of declaring blockers, but only after. If you equip it at that point, it will not trigger as it trigger has passed.

oh well as for the combo how about any of the Sword of Body and Mind Sword of Feast and Famine etc. they all have effects that trigger upon dealing damage to the player, so you just have to attack with a few creatures and have squire at the ready to switch the sword to the right place to take effect. or even just Sword of Vengeance , to send whoever got blocked barreling through with trample and first strike.

This will work. Combat damage step is after declare blockers, so on end of declare blocker, you can switch to equip an unblocked creature, or to give the blocked creature trample.

Those are brutal ideas. I think the squire is going to wreck!
