Can You Use Reassembling Skeleton's Effect While It Is On the Field to return one in the graveyard??

Asked by Terramune 14 years ago

Say this situation, One Reassembling Skeleton is in your graveyard and one is on the field. Can you then, use the Skeleton's ability that is on the field to return the one that is in the Graveyard??

The reason I am asking this is because Necrotic Ooze 's effect will let me copy the ability of the Skeleton while also making it into "1B: Return Necrotic Ooze from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped." via the SoM Q/A WotC posted about Ooze's effect:

"* If an activated ability of a card in a graveyard references the card it's printed on by name, treat Necrotic Ooze's version of that ability as though it referenced Necrotic Ooze by name instead. For example, if Cudgel Troll (which says "G: Regenerate Cudgel Troll") is in a graveyard, Necrotic Ooze has the ability "G: Regenerate Necrotic Ooze."

Nope, you cannot.

Reassembling Skeleton's ability is linked to the card, just as Necrotic Ooze's ability is linked to it. That is why they ask that you reference the card as if it says Necrotic Ooze. That and it also makes Necrotic Ooze more reasonable. :]

thaimaishuu is correct, if reassembling skeleton said "return target creature with the name Reassembling skeleton to the battlefield tapped, then yes you could do that.

Necrotic Ooze gains all activated abilities of cards in the graveyard while it is on the battlefield. Once it hits the graveyard or leaves play, you cannot activate the abilities. Thus, it doesn't work with Reassembling Skeleton . You are better off having a couple of Putrid Leech es, Drudge Skeletons and Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon
