Cavern Harpy Gaveyard?

Cavern Harpy , no need to state what it does, the question is, can you block with it, then after blocking even with leathal damage return it to your hand by paying one life?

So if you declare it as a blocker but return it before damage, what happens to the damage? Does it go through to the player, or planeswalker, or does it vanish into thin air?

it be reduced to nothing unless the attacking creature has trample if it has trample then the damage would just go through to the player or planeswalker

if your opponent cast say, an urge to feed on cavern harpy, the aurge to feed is on the stack, if you pay the 1 life to return it to your hand, that ability resolves first (unless countered) the the urge to feed resolves with no target for its effect and therefore "Fizzles Out"

Yes I understand that one and how the stack works, the reason I asked, is because he likes to block my attacks with his Aluren Deck, using Cavern Harpy, and then pays one life after he blocks, and returns it to his hand, takes no damage, then plays it for free... it is annouying and I wanted to be sure he would or wouldn't take the damage or if his creature would die...

that would be no once it takes lethal damage it cant be returned to your hand by its ability.
though after declaring it as a blocker you could return it to your hand (this would let it block a creature and not take damage just make sure you return it before the combat damage step otherwise it will die)
