Clone continued...

ok, so if i clone say Sphinx of Magosi , and it already had 2 +1/+1 counters, does clone come into play a 8/8 flyer, with the same ability as the sphinx right? he'd enter a 8/8, and i could pay to boost him (the clone) also? what if you clone a leveler, say Student of Warfare who is at level 3...is my Clone a level 3, and i can pay to keep leveling? sorry if some of this seems repetitive, i just wanna be clear. if you Clone an enchanted creature, does clone get the enchantment effects? i.e. totem armor? if i Clone Daggerback Basilisk with a Hyena Umbra , does Clone get deathtouch, +1/+1, first strike and the totem armor?

so essentially Clone hits the table...then becomes that card...if i clone an opponents Student of Warfare at level 3, i get my own Student card, freshly cast with nothin on him, but COULD then level him up because i basically now have my own student...correct? Same with cloning my own Sphinx of Magosi , its like i just cast a new one, no counters, but would be able to draw and pump him right?

yep, just as you said. Like a just cast 'new' version of that same creature. Free to use abilities or 'pump'.

I wanted to add, in the wizards example quoted above. Since clone can only target creatures. If you targeted an animated Chimeric Staff and got the artifact, wouldn't the clone fail as it cannot target regular artifacts? If it works as described, your getting to clone a non-creature artifact. Which its not allowed to target.

yea, i shouldnt have said target... But it does say 'comes in as a copy of creature on the battlefield'. As the oracle states, 'you get a normal, nonanimated Chimeric Staff.' which is kinda misleading. Cause at that point your clone a non-creature artifact. Im just a bit lost on that specific logic.

You are copying the Chimeric Staff card which is currently a creature. Clone copies that card. Since it does not come into play as a creature, Clone doesn't either. Your clone is now a non-creature artifact named Chimeric Staff with all the normal abilities of Chimeric Staff.
And WiseHeart65, yes you are correct.

Wizards ruling
"7/15/2007 - Clone doesn't copy whether the original creature is tapped or untapped. It also doesn't copy any counters on that creature, any Auras attached to that creature, or any effects that are currently affecting that creature -- you get exactly what's printed on the chosen card and nothing more. So if you copy an animated Chimeric Staff , for example, you get a normal, nonanimated Chimeric Staff ."
