Colorless Commanders

Asked by TimProctor 13 years ago

Here are the facts and questions:

Facts:

I have a Commander cube and one of the commanders is a legendary eldarazi.

The breakdown of the cube is 90 of each color, 100 colorless, and 25 lands, and 25 multicolored (evenly disrupted).

The only rares in the cube are the commanders, so no rare lands are allowed.

We run with 60 card decks and draft 5 - 15 card packs

Question:

It is impossible with the current set to run a colorless commander, would the best solution be to allow basic lands and assume the produce colorless, or to consider it a 5 colored general and have it so that only cards with colorless in the cost are considered legal.

Some twisting or torting will be required but the basic land seems the best.

So are you drafting a (edh) Commander Deck from that card pool, but only allowing play of the included mana cost colors?

Sorta, we have 24 commanders which are dealt out. 1 of each mono color, 1 of each guild, 1 of each shard, 1 colorless, and 3 all 5 colors.

Each person in an 8 man draft will have three options. Then we draft and once they are done drafting we pick the commander.

It would be EASY to simply not have an eldrazi in the cube. It would be PRUDENT, I think, to simply give the person basic land and tell them they can only produce colorless mana.

Well if you were playing along EDH lines you could only play colorless mana cost cards because the only mana anything you had could produce, would be colorless. I would take out the Eldrazi commander if there were not enough colorless spells to build a viable deck. Or you could consider that if they had a colorless commander they are required to play with all colors. That seems the only fair way, or as Hamburgers put it, just take it out.
