Ria Ivor, Bane of Bladehold so if I use the effect of ria ivor, bane of bladehold and prevent a 5/5 from dealing damage to a player. But if a player throws a 1/1 in front of it, do I get the 5 mites or not?

No, because no damage would be getting dealt to the player.

Your 5/5 just kills the 1/1 as normal and this cards effects do nothing for that combat round.

Of course, if you had trample on your 5/5, then 4 damage could still be prevented, giving you 4 mites.
