do creatures fall under Silence's effect?

likewise. can you counter a creature spell with Cancel ? The reason I'm not sure is because some cards are more specific, like Countersquall or Essence Scatter

Yes, creature spells fall under Silence , just as they fall under Cancel . While it is true that they are creatures, what you are actually doing is casting a spell to summon the creature to the battlefield. And it is that spell that you are countering with Cancel and falls under the effect of Silence .

Anytime you play something from you hand, it's considered casting a spell, except for lands. So, after Silence resolves, the only card type that can leave your hand is your land drop for the turn.

Likewise, since Cancel doesn't specify what type of spell it can target, it can target ANY spell. This includes any card type, except for land.

Lands don't get cast.

an opponent also has the ability to play any creatures spell and such also..leveling up, and so on is an activated ability i believe, so its not a "spell". this correct?

sorry, did not mean to say creature spells...meant creatures abilities, like if Guul Draz Assassin or Royal Assassin was already on the battlefield from a previous turn, and they are not affected by summoning sickness then you could use either ones ability right?

@WiseHeart65:

Correct, Silence doesn't stop you from using abilities.

Can anything stop silence? For example an instant trap card of some sort.
