Do you keep the surplus cards you draw from Necropotence?

Asked by musikBoi360 13 years ago

So, if I were to pay 10 life to use Necropotence's ability, when the ten cards go into my hand at the end of my turn, do I have to discard cards because my hand is bigger than seven? Or do the cards enter my hand after my discard step, in which case I can keep them for the next turn?

Yes.

You discard them. It says they enter your hand at the beginning of the discard step. (or in the newer text at the beginning of the next end step)

Either way, the first part of that step is to discard down to 7 after any instant, effects, or abilities have resolved.

So the enchantment triggers and fills your hand with goodies, and then the first part of the end phase begins and you discard down to 7.

To get around having to discard, play with SpellbookMTG Card: Spellbook.
