will a metalcrafted Etched Champion die from a Pyroclasm ?

no, because of the "D" D.E.B.T

Things that have the protection ability, are protected from:

Damage from the sources its protected from

Equip/Enchant from the sources its protected from

Blocking Creatures of the color or type its protected from

Target of Spells and Abilities from the sources its protected from

in this case, its protected from Pyroclasm because of the Damage

Legend's correct; while a creature with Shroud would still be affected, Protection stops damage, so the Pyroclasm is ineffective.
