does Clone copy ALL of a creatures abilities?

Asked by WiseHeart65 14 years ago

then what happens if that creature leaves play or changes, gets counters or something, does clone also? if the cloned creature dies, does clone go to 0/0 and die?

I believe that once the Clone spell resolves it is treated just like an exact copy of the card you cloned. Thus it would have any abilities that the creature on the battlefield had. If the creature you cloned leaves play or gets counters nothing happens to your creature. If the cloned creature dies your clone does not die or revert to a 0/0.

When Clone enters play, you treat it as a copy of the creature it clones. After that it's an independent creature- if Clone clones, say, Elvish Warrior , and then later the Elvish Warrior gets destroyed or gets +1/+1 counters or whatever, Clone doesn't imitate that. Clone does its own thing.

The beauty of Clone is that it's effect triggers as it enters the battlefield. NOT beforehand

So You don't target a creature when your announcing Clone , nor while it's on the stack. It's only announced which creature you are mimicking when the spell is resolving and it is hitting the battlefield. This way 3 things are noted.

  1. Clone can copy any creature on the field. EVEN a protection from Blue creature, because it's not targetting. (Doesn't say it does!) (Hello Clone of card:Gaea's Revenge!
  2. If the intended creature is killed before Clone resolves, then you can simply pick something else. If there is no creatures on the board, then it simply comes into play as a 0/0 and dies :(
  3. Like KrazyCaley says, Clone is a seperate creature. Therefore it needs to be treated as such.
Hope this helps anything clone related :)

ok, so if i clone say Sphinx of Magosi , ang it already had 2 +1/+1 counters, does clone come into play a 8/8 flyer, with the same ability as the sphinx right? he'd enter a 8/8, and i could pay to boost him (the clone) also? what if you clone a leveler, say Student of Warfare who is at level 3...is my Clone a level 3, and i can pay to keep leveling? sorry if some of this seems repetitive, i just wanna be clear. if you Clone and enchanted creature, does clone get the enchantment effects? i.e. totem armor? if i Clone Daggerback Basilisk with a Hyena Umbra , does Clone get deathtouch, +1/+1, first strike and the totem armor?

You clone the original, unmodified creature, no auras, equipment, counters.

The Sphinx of Magosi would be a 6/6 flier with the same ability. The Student of Warfare would be a guy with no level counters, etc.
