Does equipping a creature activate sphinx bone wand's ability?

Sphinx-Bone Wand activates whenever you cast a sorcery or instant. Equipping counts as a sorcery. Does equipping then activate the Wand's ability?

no because equipping a creature is an activated ability that happens at sorcery speed not a sorcery

i forgot to add that the bone wand's ability only triggers when you cast a instant or sorcery SPELL nothing else :)

xeratheenigma is right. Equipping is not a sorcery spell, it is an action done at sorcery speed. The same goes for attaching, it can be done at instant speed, but is not an instant spell.

There are a few cards whose abilities will say "Activate (whatever it is) as a sorcery". This does not mean you are casting a sorcery, which would trigger Sphinx-Bone Wand or Pyromancer Ascension , but that you may only activate that ability any time you would be able to play sorcery spells (i.e. in either of your main phases)

the keyword in this card, is cast

since cast means, informally at least, playing from your hand, you wouldn't be able to use Sphinx-Bone Wand 's ability because artifact - equipment cards have to be already on the field for it to be equipped on a creature.
