does equipping an equipment count as a spell

Asked by zigkid3 14 years ago

if there is already an equipment on the field, and then you pay to attach/equip it to a creature, does that count as a spell or no?

No, it is an ability not a spell.

The only things that count as spells are the cards that you cast, most often from your hand (occasionally from other zones like the graveyard with card:Yawgmoth's Will or from the exile zone with the suspend ability, for instance).

If you're doing something that's written on a card that's sitting out on the battlefield, you're dealing with an ability. (Again, there's some exceptions to this - the cycling mechanic is an ability, but it's only used when a card is in your hand, for example - but it's a reliable general rule)

It does not count as casting a spell.

It can be replied to on the stack like a spell would.
