Does Goblin Sharpshooter's ability count as RED damage that could be blocked by Brave the Elements?

Goblin Sharpshooter taps to attack a creature. Can Brave the Elements save a white creature from that RED damage or is the damage not colored at all?
yes it can. the damage is not colored, but it takes into account the source of the damage.
it is not red damage, but it is caused by a red source.
more than that you can use Brave the Elements to give protection from red, in response to activation of sharpshooter, so the ability is countered on resolution for illegal target. This is good because if the a Leyline of Punishment was in play the damage cannot be prevented.

Emerge Unscathed works also.
Protection from [color] means DEBT : Damage : damage from [color is prevented] Enchant : enchatments on [] fall of. Blocking : creature with prot from [color] cannot be blocked by creatures of that [color] Target: perm with prot from [color] cannot be target of sources of that [color]

leyline doesnt work here. both cards give pro a color. the damage isnt prevented, it just hits an illegal target and the damage does nothing.

@supernick in this particular case yes, but i wanted to expose that the difference of illegal target and preventable damage that the protection grants.
as u state, is quite incorrect, it does not exist anything as "damage does nothing", it simply does not get to that point. The entire ability is countered.

unfortunety yes the protection makes your creature an illegal target for sharpshooter so its effect fizziles and he remains tapped i had to figure this out because of my deck:no-pong-all-ping deck.

the damage is dealt by a red source, that being Goblin Sharpshooter , and Emerge Unscathed s ability gives a target creature you control protection from a color of your choice, so yes you can prevent the damage from tne sharpshooter.
