does mana empty from the mana pool as steps and phases end or at end of turn?

Asked by SwiftDeath 13 years ago

im 90% sure i already know the answer but my friend was playing in a game and was told that when he tryed to tap paladium-myr at the begining of his upkeep in response to Tumble Magnet he was told the mana eptied from his mana pool when his upkeep ended so he couldn't use the three mana from paladium myr to play spells during his main phase is this correct? im 90% sure he should have the mana until the end of turn but i still have a wavering 10%.

It empties at the end of his upkeep.

106.4. When an effect produces mana, that mana goes into a players mana pool. From there, it can be used to pay costs immediately, or it can stay in the players mana pool. Each players mana pool empties at the end of each step and phase.

According to the recent changes made to the mana mechanics, now your mana pool is automatically emptied at the end of each fase. So yeah if he had tapped the Palladium Myr for mana at the upkeep then he should have the mana available only until the end of that fase.

The same happens to all other fases: beggining, first main, combat, second main and end fase.

These changes came with M10 along with the mana burn elimination.

Your mana pool gets drained at the end of phases and steps unless you have an Omnath, Locus of Mana .
