Does Stonybrook Banneret reduce the colored cost of merfolks?

If we have 2x Stonybrook Banneret on the field and want to play a Merfolk Sovereign does the Merfolk Sovereign now only cost 1 Blue mana to play? and what about a Merfolk of the Pearl Trident ? is he free?

Not at all. Stonybrook Banneret only lowers the casting cost by 1, not 1 or U. Merfolk Sovereign would still be UU, and Merfolk of the Pearl Trident would still be U.

emblasochist is correct. a card would need less colored mana only if it specificly said what color, such as Khalni Hydra .
