How does Double Strike work when the creature is blocked?
Asked by zigkid3 14 years ago
noob question.
so i know that double strike means you deal first strike damage then normal combat damage.
my question is, if a say a 4/4 with double strike is blocked by a 1/1, obviously the 1/1 dies. but does the 4/4 then deal 4 damage to the player? or no? and why?
yep. squire 1 is correct. assuming the creature doesn't have trample. then you have massive loads of crap to deal with

for some reason i was under the impression that if the 1/1 blocked the 4/4 double strike, the 1/1 would die to the first stike combat damage, then the double strike damage would go through.. therefore the player takes 4...
maybe i was wrong! haha

squire is correct. If it is just a 4/4 double strike, it deals first strike damage to the 1/1, killing it, and the normal damage is also directed at the 1/1, but the 1/1 is dead, so it more or less fizzles. If the 4/4 double strike also had trample, it would deal 1 to the 1/1, and 3 to the player during first strike damage. Then it would deal 4 during normal damage (to the player) because the 1/1 is already dead (effectively, 7 to the player)

Ok, what if it isn't blocked? Does the player take double damage taking 8 points of damage?

Ok, heres a good one. Say a creature has double strike and then I cast Assault Strobe on that creature will it get quad strike? LOL, I know it's probably a stupid question but I had to ask.

no two instances of doublestrike will not grant a creature quadstrike

no, it does not. It is still blocked. The opponent's creature dying does not unblock your creature. Pretty sure anyway
