Does Elspeth's Ultimate die if her effect goes away?

Asked by zigkid3 14 years ago

concerning the planeswalker Elspeth, her ultimate make things indestructable. my questions are... obviously if you use up just enough counters to use her ultimate and have her die at the same time, her ultimate probably still works right? If she dies does her effect go away?

also, does that effect only effect things that were already on the board and nothing else that you play in the future? or does it effect future cards you put down as well?

Well, this is a two-part answer. First, the oracle text on elspeth recently changed to

"-8: You get an emblem with "Artifacts, creatures, enchantments, and lands you control are indestructible."

This really clears things up. Basically after her effect happens, you have a card in play that states 'Artifacts, enchantments, and lands you control are indestructible.' It will effect any of those types you control or will control at any point in the game, whether Elspeth is on the battlefield or not.

Any "For the rest of the game" effect remains in play for the rest of the game, even if its source is destroyed- I believe they're in the process of Oracle'ing all the "For the rest of the game" stuff into emblems.
