What do you mean "for the new set"? Last change to the rules for combat damage was made last year, when M10 came out. It changed from combat damage being put on the stack, like an ability, to all the damage being dealt simultaneously in the combat step, more specifically the damage phase (not sure if that is the proper name for it). I am unaware of any changes for M11 or Scars.

The only change to the way damage works in Scars of Mirrodin is specifically in regards to the way creatures with the keyword ability "Infect" deal damage. But each of those creatures has reminder text to explain how they work, so I don't think that is what you mean.

If you can give more specifics we would be happy to help but I've heard of no general change to the way damage works other than what siegfried pointed out about the end of 'damage on the stack' (I preferred the old way personally).

ok im told if i attack with Elvish Archdruid and 4 other elves then they can block and kill my archdruid and the other elves will become weaker during the damage step and i can't figure out why cause it's seems to be different everytime i attack so am i not understanding something or am i being cheated.

They are pulling your leg. Creatures don't get sent to the graveyard from combat until the end of the damage step. So when your other elves deal their damage, Archdruid is still around pumping them.

Yep it sounds like they are just uninformed or if you think it is malicious they could be lying to you.

But during a combat where no creatures involved have first strike or double strike all combat damage is dealt simultaneously. So even if the Elvish Archdruid dies as a result of combat damage all your other elves will still factor in the Archdruid's +1/+1 for their own damage.

Now once the archdruid dies the toughness of your other elves will go down by 1 and that reduction in toughness can result in them dying as well if they were dealt sufficient damage in combat. This is because combat damage is tracked until the end of the turn, not just until the end of the combat.

Ah, good points Eyehate, both about First Strike and lingering damage. I always forget that damage lasts until the cleanup step, and it's lost me games in the past....

So, here's a question, if my opponent have an Elvish Archdruid, and a Joraga Treespeaker at level 1 (a 1/2, but now a 2/3) in play, and I play Shrivel twice, would the Treespeaker stick around or die?

The Joraga Treespeaker would die. After playing 2 Shrivel s (or one Infest ), all creatures on the battlefield are getting -2/-2 until end of turn. When Archdruid goes to the graveyard, Treespeaker's base toughness will be back to 2, thus it will be sent to the graveyard for having 0 or less toughness.

Yeah, I just wish Infest was still around. Now the best I have is Marsh Casualties
