Grand Architect

Asked by btmankin 14 years ago

My friend has a Grand Architect in play and uses it to block then exiles it before taking any damage. Can he do that. Does that just make [[Grand Architect like impossible to get rid of cause he will never take damage or be sacrificed as long as my opponent has a blue mana open.

Yes, that's right. As long as he has blue mana and has Metalcraft active, he can use it as an infinite blocker. After declaring it as a blocker, he can activate its ability to remove it from play. The attacking creature is still considered blocked, but Argent Sphinx is not in play to receive damage.

Important things to note: Trample is a good way to get around this. When things like this happen, the blocked damage gets absorbed into a theoretical 0-toughness blocker. Because of that, all trample damage rolls over it.

Also, though it would really suck to do so, if you have a couple of kill spells in your hand and he has only enough mana to activate it once, you can target it, then respond to his dodge to kill it before it exiles. It is costly, but if it's giving you serious trouble it is an option.
