How do Necrotic Ooze and Putrid Leech work together?

Asked by Jarrod_0067 14 years ago

Am I right in saying that if you have a Necrotic Ooze on the battlefield and two or more purid-leeches in your graveyard, you can activate their pumping ability once each for Necrotic Ooze ?

This is a really good question. As far as the wording goes I think that you can only activate it once. Necrotic Ooze says that it has all activated abilities of all creatures in all graveyards.

So lets say that Necrotic Ooze were to check at any point (state-based) for if that is true. It sees one Putrid Leech , and says "ok I now have that ability". Another one gets put in the graveyard. Necrotic Ooze checks again, it says " ok I have that ability" looks at the second one and says "ok I have that ability". Since it has that ability I do not think it stacks to the next one.

This answer is not from knowing, I am speculating based on the card text. I would assume that since it has that ability it does not reacquire it.

Hrm - too early in the morning - i think im wrong - you still have to pay 2 life for each pump. sorry for the confusion.

but yes, you can activate each ability once (multiple abilities stack, and it does get it more than once if there are 2 or more leeches in graveyard)

you sure that all multiple abilities stack. If there are two creatures wither in the graveyard you do not get wither twice (even though that would be redundant)

yeah - keywords are different - thats why they changed lifelink to a static ability (those don't stack)

just to make this thread longer :

112.2c An object may have multiple abilities. If the object is represented by a card, then aside from certain defined abilities that may be strung together on a single line (see rule 702, "Keyword Abilities"), each paragraph break in a card's text marks a separate ability. If the object is not represented by a card, the effect that created it may have given it multiple abilities. An object may also be granted additional abilities by a spell or ability. If an object has multiple instances of the same ability, each instance functions independently. This may or may not produce more effects than a single instance; refer to the specific ability for more information.
