How does Deflecting Palm work with random Damage

I had a game a few days ago where my opponent cast an. Epic Experiment where =10, in the game with Zaffai, Thunder Conductor
on the battlefield. I was the last player so I cast Deflecting Palm electing that the next time Zaffai, Thunder Conductor would deal damage to me it would be dealt to my opponent. However, if there were multiple opponents, would I have to cast Deflecting Palm choosing for the next time an effect like Vial Smasher the Fierce or Zaffai, Thunder Conductor without knowing if it would randomly select me?

You would have to cast Deflecting Palm before the Zaffai, Thunder Conductor
trigger resolves, so you would not yet know who the damage was going to be dealt to.
