How does protection work?

Asked by Raddman 13 years ago

I just want to clarify my understanding of how protection from a color on a creature works.

If I am playing Kor Firewalker and my opponent casts Pyroclasm , he doesn't die because the card reads it does damage to the creature. I am assuming I read this correctly.

Now if my opponent has a card that says it has protection from Blue and Black, but I cast Consume the Meek it does die in this instance (if it's under 3 mana) because it wasn't targeted or dealt damage. Same goes for creatures with protection from White, they die when day-of-judgement is cast.

Am I understanding the rules correctly in these circumstances?

Yes, protection protects you from D.E.B.T: Damage, Enchant/Equip, Block, Target.

The Kor Firewalker can't be damaged by Pyroclasm , but a Mirran Crusader would be killed by Consume the Meek
