How exactly does omnath, locus of mana work?

When it says: "green mana doesn't empty from your mana pool as steps and phases end," does that mean when turns end? My friend beat me with omnath a lot and I was wondering if we were using it correctly.

Normally, any spare mana in your mana pool disappears at the end of each step (declare attackers, combat damage) and phase (upkeep, main). There is no special mana-pool-emptying event for the end of the turn. So yes, Omnath overrides every time your mana pool would naturally empty itself. Easiest way to think about it is a giant green mana fuel tank.
