How long do effects like Lord of Atlantis's effect last after lethal damage?

If you attack with a bunch if merfolk and the lord (for whatever reason), and your lord is blocked by a larger creature, will your merfolk still get +1/+1 for that combat?
I've always thought that effects like this would last at least to the end of of combat, giving your creatures the bonus the time being
another example of something like this would be Stinkdrinker Bandit
I would have to kindly disagree with you Leardawg. For the longest time, I too thought that if a leadership creature like Lord of Atlantis was blocked and killed due to combat damage all the rest of the creatures would still get the +1/+1 for the combat. To my dismay I found out that that is wrong, the rest of the creatures debuff and therefore the do normal damage without the +1/+1.
I do have to agree with your explanation on Stinkdrinker Bandit , the ability has ablready been triggered so it will stay even if Stinkdrinker Bandit is removed or destroyed after the affect resolves.

I'm going to have to side with Leardawg on this one. All damage is dealt at once during combat, except for first strike damage. So all of the damage is dealt including the buff from Lord of Atlantis . However as soon as he leaves play after combat for having damage marked on him enough to kill him, the other creatures immediately lose the buff, potentially causing them to die before the damage is removed. However, if Lord of Atlantis is removed, like Leardawg said, with a removal spell or with frist strike damage, then he is not on the board when damage is dealt.

yeah you still get the buff. damage is all dealt at the same time (aside from first strike). So all damage happens, lord of atlantis dies, then they all go back to normal

Please disregard my last post. I took the time to look it up and my friend also clarified it to me. I was wrong, they will all get the +1/+1 benefit for that combat phase.
Leardawg says... #1
To my understanding of the rules, it depends on when he is removed from play and how. If, for example, he is blocked by a larger creature, he is still on the board at the damage step and therefore they would keep the bonus. On the other hand, if someone were to remove him, say with a Path to Exile , then the bonus would be gone when he leave play, whether attackers have been declared, blockers have been declared, what have you. As long as he is removed before the damage step, the bonus will disappear.
Now, with Stinkdrinker Bandit , that is another story, because his ability actually says, until end of turn. So, if a rogue is declared as an attacker and then he is removed, so long as he is not blocked, he gets the bonus, because the ability is already on the stack.
