How strict are standard tournament rules?

How strict are the tournaments? If I wanted to play in a standard tournament but my basic lands are from M10 and my counter spell cancel is from M10 could I enter?

short answer yes

as long as the cards you are planning on using have been reprinted in the current standard sets (which are zendikar, worldwake, rise of eldrazi, M11, and scars of mirrodin) you can use them your basiclands could be from alpha and your cancel could be from shards or earlier and your deck would still be standard legal
