If i attack with a land enchanted with crusher zendikon will it add mana to the pool?

Asked by phyrexianpotater 13 years ago

so for example. a few creatures on the field by turn 4. i enchant the remaining land (that i have controlled since an earlier turn) with Crusher Zendikon and swing with all my creatures including the enchanted land. since its still a land and its tapping to attack, would it also add one R to my mana pool allowing me to play lightning bolt or another one drop DD card?

no, when you tap the land/creature, you can have it either attack or add mana, you can't do both.

doinitwrong is correct.

Getting mana from a land involves tapping it - as a cost. All basic lands, for instance essentially read "Tap: Add [mana color] to your mana pool." You have to tap the mountain in order to get the mana.

Similarly, you have to tap the creature-land in order to attack with it, almost as if tapping were a cost for attacking. (It's not, though, but that way lies technical vernacular we don't need to get into for this).

You can't pay two costs with one action, just like you can't buy two sodas with one dollar bill (or whatever currency you use). So you can't pay the cost of tapping the land for mana AND pay the "cost" of tapping to attack with the same tap.

Bonus note: If the mana was going to work the way you want it to, the land you're swinging with would have to have a triggered ability based on when it becomes tapped, i.e. "Whenever [this card's name] becomes tapped, add [mana color] to your mana pool." THEN it would both tap to attack and add to your pool, since in that case tapping is the trigger, not the cost.

@MagnorCriol

also as well some of the old lands even say on them "Tap: Add [mana color] to your mana pool." rather than just the mana symbol in the middle like the new style ones

I prefer the new textless versions!

Though the old ones will always have a soft spot in my heart.

you could use Celestial Colonnade and attack and still tap it for mana

this also applies to saccing. You can only sac for one ability/card, you can't sac one thing for multiple things.
