If i attack with Hero of Bladehold how many counters would Beastmaster Ascension get?

Asked by muffludwig 13 years ago

If I have 1 creature on the field, and that creature is Hero of Bladehold , what would happen if I have a Beastmaster Ascension with zero counters on it, what would happen if I attack? One counter? Or three?

three, the Hero of Bladehold and ascension activate (go on the stack) in the order of your choice because the effects are triggered by the same action so you have hero activate make 2 more creatures then the ascention will check for attacking creatures and will get 3 counters.

remember to order them on the stack in the right order otherwise you will only get 1.

That's what I thought (and was hoping for). Thanks!

i am quite sure that it is not this way that works.

Beastmaster ascension triggers of oattackign creatures you declare as attackers.

When you attack with hero of bladehold, after decalre attackers step, 2 abilities will trigger : 1 from hero, 1 from beastmaster ascension. even if you order them as the hero's ability resolves and put 2 creatures attacking, beastmaster ascension has only 1 triggered effect of its ability on stack that resolves, and puts only 1 counter on it.

While declaring attackers, no ability can exist on stack, they will wait until all attackers have been declared, and at that point (the first occasion to trigger), Ascension sees only 1 attacking creature. Later on it will not trigger as you are not declaring any more attackers.

if you attack with 3 creatures, beastmaster triggers 3 times, and thus putting 3 counters on itself.

Comp Rules

508.4. If a creature is put onto the battlefield attacking, its controller chooses which defending player or which planeswalker a defending player controls its attacking as it enters the battlefield (unless the effect that put it onto the battlefield specifies what its attacking). Such creatures are attacking but, for the purposes of trigger events and effects, they never attacked.
