If I do damage in poison counters, does totem armor still remove the damage?

I'm just curious to be honest. So if I hit a creature with poison counters and I manage to kill it, the totem armor should trigger and take away the damage and in the process save the creature. Now if it doesn't take away the counters though it will still just end up killing the creature.
I feel like it should take away the counters as the definition of infect is that the creature deals damage in the form of -1/-1 counters and thus totem armor should still be able to remove the damage ie the counters. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
This is true. The Infect (or Wither, if that's relevant) ability to put -1/-1 counters on a creature is a replacement effect for regular damage. Also, a creature with toughness 0 or less is not technically destroyed, thus Totem Armor would not trigger. For the same reason, you wouldn't be able to Regenerate a Blight Mamba targeted by Disfigure

Actually, Totem armor has no effect if the enchanted permanent is put into a graveyard for any other reason than being "destroyed", which is lethal damage or a destroy effect. The poison counters would make the creature be sent to the graveyard but not destroyed, so they'd lose both. It wouldn't bring them back to life at all.
