If I "exile", does it it count as "into graveyard"?

I understand that "exile" means remove from game, but does it technically go into a graveyard?

i.e. Can I use Mimic Vat to create many wurmcoil artifacts by exiling a Wurmcoil Engine

no. an exiled object goes straight from whatever zone it is in (in this case, the battlefield) directly into the exile zone. as such, no 'enters the graveyard' abilities will trigger, though 'leaves the battlefield' abilities will.

In magic there are 8 zones an object can exist in (by object I mean: 109.1. An object is an ability on the stack, a card, a copy of a card, a token, a spell, a permanent, or an emblem.)

Library

Hand

Battlefield

Graveyard

Stack

Exile

Ante

Command

Any card that moves an object from one of these zones to another moves it directly from the specified originating zone to the specified destination zone. There are no stops along the way unless the spell/ability moving the object specifies otherwise.
