If I have a creature with trample, and you block it with a creature with wither or infect, what happens?

Lets say I am attacking you with a Putrefax and you block it with a Plague Stinger , would the putrefax get the -1/-1 counter in time for it to lower the amount of damage it deals, or would it deal its damage then the -1/-1 counter takes effect?

Short answer : it deal its damage then the -1/-1 counter takes effect.

Without things like double strike or first strike, the damage would be dealt simultaneously considering trample, you would assign 1 damage to the Plague Stinger and 4 would get through to the player or planeswalker. Plague Stinger would assign 1 damage to the Putrefax , and it would get a -1/-1 counter.

if you managed to give the Plague Stinger first strike, and the Putrefax didnt have it, then the Putrefax would get the -1/-1 counter before it dealt damage.
