If I have Concerted Effort out and my Pristine Angel becomes tapped does it still have protection?

Asked by therichterlens 13 years ago

If i have pristine-angle out and also have Concerted Effort in play, but my angel becomes tapped by say, a frost titan, does the protection from all colors wear off because of angel's ability? or does she still have protection because effort says "all creatures" and "until the end of turn"? im assuming i answered my own question, but i'd like verification.

I'd have to say no it won't lose protection because it says all creatures "gain" this means it gets the ability twice (sorta). And won't lose protection if tapped.

The Pristine Angel 's protection means it can't be tapped by Frost Titan . But if it was somehow tapped, your creatures would still have protection until end of turn, as Concerted Effort 's text says "...until end of turn..."

I think it works like this. Concerted Effort is affected by Pristine Angel, giving all your other creatures Flying and Pro Artifacts + Colours. Pristine Angel is Pro white, meaning it cannot gain the abilities given it by Concerted Effort. In other words, Pristine Angel cannot be affected in anyway by Concerted Effort. If this is the case and some how after upkeep Pristine Angel became tapped. It would lose pro Art and colour until the next upkeep, in which case if it remains tapped. It recieves whatever bonuses Concerted Effort can provide, except of course pro art and colour since it no longer has them.

For an example a red spell causing a player to sacrifice all creatures, would not have effect on a pro red creature. In which case that player sacrifices all creatures not pro red.

Driver_James, you're incorrect about how Protection functions.

Pro White doesn't stop Pristine Angel from being affected by Concerted Effort , and a red mass-sacrifice spell would still be the demise of a Pro Red creature. This is because neither of those things target the creature.

Protection guards a creature from targeted things from the source it's protected from, prevents damage from that source, and makes the creature unblockable by creatures of that color or quality. You can remember this with the acronym D.E.B.T - damage, enchant/equip, blocking, targeting.

Concerted Effort doesn't target anything, so it still affects the Angel. And a red spell that causes a player to sacrifice all creatures would target the player, but not the creatures themselves.

Resurrector_of_the_Soulslayer and doinitwrong have it right here; at the beginning f each player's upkeep, the enchantment runs its check and bestows the abilities to all creatures you control. As long as Pristine Angel was untapped at that moment, then the Effort detects the Angel's Protection and all your creatures (including the angel) gain the various Protections until the end of the turn.
