If I already have 5 mountains in play, and a mountain and Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle enter the battlefield at the same time (e.g using Primeval Titan , would the effect trigger?

Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle would have to be on the battlefield before it's ability triggers. Sorry, you have to wait 'tll next time the Titan attacks.

Yes it will trigger, if Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and the mountain that enters play is the 6th mountain.

Trigger goes on the stack, checks, and sees if you have at least 5 other mountains. If yes, three damage is dealt. If no, Valakut does nothing.

It only triggered because they entered at the same time. If the mountain somehow came into play before Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle , then there would be no trigger.

Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle would come into play at the same time with the mountain and would check to see if a mountain had come into play, it would find a mountain and would trigger. So Yes, Valakut would trigger.

Well, I spent about 15 minutes trying to decide how in depth to go in my explanation and I got beaten to the answer.

I'm pretty sure since they enter the battlefield at the same time, Valakut doesn't trigger, since the action of "entering the battlefield" happens before the triggered ability of Valakut actually "exists".

@Jimmuh

When multiple permanents hit the battlefield at the same time they all see each other enter the battlefield. At which point the active player has priority to put triggered abilities on the stack whichever order they wish.

So the order is

1) Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and a mountain enter play at the same time. (Now both permanents exist)

2) Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle trigger goes on the stack. (Valakut saw the mountain that entered the battlefield with it causing this trigger)

3) Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle trigger resolves and may deal damage.

Exactly. Well done thaimaishuu, you are correct.

your overthinking it I think. They enter the battlefield at the same time. Simultaneous effects do not exist. If simultaneous effects would happen the active player chooses the order in which they happen. So you choose the order in which the lands drop.

@squire1 ..no

Those lands enter the battlefield at the same time.

Whenever an effect generates several triggers, the player that controls these triggers will chose their order.

whenever an effect states that put x [something] onto the battlefield (like Rite of Replication kicked), they enter the battlefield at the same time. They see each other as each would have existed before, and the other would have just came into play.

That why the Malakir Bloodwitch and Rite of Replication works.

"If simultaneous effects would happen the active player chooses the order in which they happen."..this is not correct.

If there are generated effects for both players, the order goes APNAP (active-player/non-active-player)..so the NAP will have its effects resolve before the AP.

Thanks everyone for helping out. I guess I'll have to show you all my new valakut build after besieged comes out as thanks, and so you can see why I was asking this. Also nice to be asking, not answering, for once.
