If I phase out Bone Shredder using Shimmering Efreet when it phases back in will it kill another creature?

shimmiering-efreet Bone Shredder

Reason being, the rules for Shimmering Efreet say phasing does not affect "when this card comes into / leaves play" but I'm not sure if I was looking at the latest rules oracle. They said no.

Interesting. So you are hoping that the Bone Shredder will keep triggering?

I am inclined to think it would not because I don't think phasing creatures is the same as leaving the battlefield. Like current status of exile target X until end phase and then return it to the battlefield. In those instances the ETB effects trigger, but they also were exiled so when they come back they have all other ETB effects like summoning sickness.

Phasing does not cause summoning sickness, or else you'd never be able to attack with the creature, so I'm inclined to think that when Phasing is happening it is not "leaving the battlefield" it is just becoming unusable for a turn.

This is my interpretation. I could be off the mark, as some of those older rules are odd.

Although, I do agree it would be a nice combo if it actually worked. I just think it does not. Unfortunately.

no this combo doesnt work

with phasing your creature alternates between being phased in and phased out. when it is phased in you just treat it like normal. when it is phased out you just treat it like it doesn't exist (so removal and etc. wont work on it while its phased out.) though it never actually leaves the battlefield, think of it as a pseudo form of exile.

if you look at card:Teferi's Isle it has phasing. so if phasing caused a permanent to leave and enter play the isle would never get a chance to untap on its own.
