If I play a Phyrexian Revoker naming Phyrexian Revoker does it negate it's own ability?
Asked by IPyro92 13 years ago
What would happen if you played a Phyrexian Revoker and the card you named was itself, would the effect happen an any future Phyrexian Revoker simply be a 2/1 artifact creature?
Yes, they would be able to use their ability because it is a triggered ability and not an activated ability.

You did answer your own question.
Activated abilities have a cost followed by a colon in text. So it would look something like
"tap a creature: summon doom titan"

im legitametly frightened by this doom titan of which you speak
yeah enters the battlefield is a trigger not an activation
and on a somewhat side note, i hate how insanely good this card is and how hard its gonna shut down pretty much any deck i play with

Just run removal....its the same thing as Meddling Mage basically. Just Meddling Mage keeps it off the field, Phyrexian Revoker still lets them come into play.

Ha ha, Doom Titan is something my friend made up. We decided it was a black titan that shoots Doom Blade , sounds broken? :P
And yes Phyrexian Revoker is good. It is Pithing Needle with a 2/1 body. Remember also, since the controller names a card as it is being played, no one can activate abilities of the source in response.

thaimaishuu, that last part isn't true actually. Yes, you name a nonland card AS Phyrexian Revoker enters the battlefield, but it's "Activated abilities of sources with the chosen name can't be activated." ability does not come into effect until it hits the battlefield. For example, you cast Phyrexian Revoker . While it is on the stack, you name your opponents Lullmage Mentor . You're opponent still has a chance to tap seven untapped merfolk and counter your Phyrexian Revoker .

KorApprentice, you are correct. Let me clear up my previous post. What I meant to say was:
"...since the controller names a card as it resolves, no one can activate abilities of the source in response."
So, yes you can still activate abilities while it is being casted. However, once it starts to resolve it is too late to respond to. So you cannot use Prodigal Pyromancer 's activated ability to kill Phyrexian Revoker in response to it entering the battlefield (absurd I know). :P

after rereading the card i think i answered my own question although i would still like confirmation, since it's ability is not an activated ability but a passive ability does any future Phyrexian Revoker get to use it's ability also?
