If you equip Triskelion with Blade of the Bloodchief then you proliferate will you be able to put two +1/+1 counters on triskelion instead of just one?

Asked by phyrexianpotater 13 years ago

if you play triskillion and then equip blade-of-the-bloodcheif would those each count as a permanent giving double counters on triskillion???? i just got told that that was confirmed true by multiple WOTC judges but i find it pretty farfetched

AHHHHHHH. Triskelion and Blade of the Bloodchief

i feel retards D:

I'm not sure what is being asked.

If you play Triskelion , he will have 3 +1/+1 counters on him. If you then play and equip Blade of the Bloodchief to him, no more counters are added. If a creature is placed in the graveyard after this, you add another +1/+1 counter to Triskelion , but only one since he is not a Vampire.

I'm not sure if I'm reading the question correctly but...

I believe that is false. Equipping Triskelion with Blade of the Bloodchief will not cause Triskelion to relieve two counters. If anything, it will just give Triskelion some extra after it kills something. It would only give Triskelion two counters if it was a vampire.

Hope this helps :D

The question is "does Triskelion + Blade of the Bloodchief + Basilisk Collar = a bunch of dead creatures?" and the answer is yes, yes it does.

+1/+1 counters aren't creatures which are what triggers Blade of the Bloodchief 's ability, not permanents btw. If you are able to do lethal damage to a creature with that 1 damage then you would be able to get 1 +1/+1 counters back onto Triskelion

wow i completely forgot the second part of the question. im sorry guys im doing about 237260 things at once. proliferation is the key here. if you proliferate will two counters be added to triskelion instead of one if he has the blade on him. i say no. this kids being belligerent.

If you proliferate, I believe only one counter will be added.

Blade of the Bloodchief only add counters when creatures enter the graveyard. each proliferate only adds one counter of each kind that is already there. unless you are able to kill something by proliferating, no you will not get double. because, like it says on the card "Whenever a creature is put into a graveyard from the battlefield" is the conditional trigger.

thats what i thought, i just needed backup.

playing devils advocate, that card still starts off by putting a 1/1 counter on target creature. he was saying that there are the original counters on triskelion that get proliferated AND the counter given by blade of the bloodchief that gets proliferated.

i dont know. i didnt and still dont think hes right, but with all the technicalities and craziness that happens with rules sometimes it made me question the possibility of that being correct

here is the rule text for proliferate. with one proliferate trigger you can only add one counter per proliferate trigger even if there are multiple kinds of triggers

701.23. Proliferate

701.23a To proliferate means to choose any number of permanents and/or players that have a counter, then give each exactly one additional counter of a kind that permanent or player already has.

701.23b If a permanent or player chosen this way has more than one kind of counter, the player who is proliferating chooses which kind of counter to add.

For clarification, Blade of the Bloodchief does not put a +1/+1 counter just for equipping it. The creature only receives a counter when "a creature is put into a graveyard from the battlefield" not when it is equipped to it. Also, the counters go on the creature itself, they do not stay with Blade of the Bloodchief . I hope this helps.
