Is there a way to prevent loss of life?

Outside of countering the original card can you prevent the 2 life lost from lets say liliana's caress

I believe Platinum Emperion is the only card that stops life loss.

Transcendence works sorta kinda as well.

Other than these (and maybe a few more), loss of life cannot be prevented or redirected.

card:Liliana's Caress's effect comes from a triggered ability, which you can counter with Trickbind , Voidslime or Stifle .

There's a white enchantment that I cannot for the life of me think of right now, basically nothing can happen to you as long as you discard a card every turn? Something like that.

Caress gets through Solitary Confinement , since Confinement only prevents damage and targeting effects. Life loss is different than both of those.

Solitary Confinement Gives you shroud, and prevention from damage, but in regards to mass loss of life stuff, the answer there is no.

The only thing that could work as pointed out already is the Platinum Emperion .

Why is this?

Damage is a form of life loss. Loss of life effects by-pass the whole damage part. So for example, Fog would say prevent all combat damage this turn, but that card will not prevent life loss, so if (in future) a creature attacked that made you lose life instead of dealing damage, it could get around Fog .

Hope this helps out a little.

there's also the always-luverly Platinum Angel (and I think there's another couple, but I can't recall them at the moment) who can't stop you from losing life but does stop you from actually losing.

Well it's not really preventing, but you could technically use Eternity Vessel to get back the life you loss back immediately with landfall.

the only problem with Eternity Vessel is that a Banefire for 32 or a pile of huge creatures, with a life total of 32, and an Eternity Vessel set for 32, is lethal. However, if you can get your Eternity Vessel out early and stop your opponents from accumulating massive x-spell mana or a bunch of creatures, you'll be fine (barring altwins).

Wouldn't a Circle of Protection: Black be able to prevent the loss of life as it doesn't specify the damage as "combat damage"?

I believe that wouldn't work because 'loss of life' is loss of life. it is not 'damage'. So you still lose life regardless. That would make all the CoP void for this question.

no CoP black does not prevent loss of life it just prevents damage (which is considered a form of life loss) it can stop cards like Corrupt (if it targets you) but doesn't stop cards like Bond of Agony or Suffer the Past which cause loss of life not damage.
