Is there an enchantment that nullifies all abilities that creatures have?
Asked by Legendinc 14 years ago
Is there an enchantment in the whole of Magic: The Gathering that cancels out all the keyword abilities on creatures (such as flying, deathtouch, infect etc...), tap abilities, state-based abilities, payment abilities and other kinds of abilities found on creatures null and void?
I was just wondering because I'd think it'd be fun to make a deck focused on that, and have all your creatures just be bruteforce/smashfest vanilla creatures.
i don't want to counter them.
i want to know if i can stop them altogether with an enchantment that goes "Oh, so you're a flying, deathtouch, infect, lifelink creature with the mana ability of drawing cards? Not anymore, you're just a pitiful 2/3"

Like I said, I don't think there are any cards that can stop static abilities. You can stop the card drawing ability with something like Arrest , but the other abilities can't be touched

lol well there is a possibility.
before Leeches i didn't know anything that could take out poison counters.
and don't even get me started on Shahrazad 's effect hahah

Searching Gatherer for "loses all abilities" in the rules text tells us that there's only four cards that do this: Snakeform , Humble , and Ovinize (the colorshifted version of Humble) are all instants that remove abilities, and Soul Sculptor is a creature that...interestingly, can turn creatures into enchantments and makes them lose all their abilities until someone else casts a creature spell. Odd little guy.
But there's no persisting enchantment that does this, sorry.
(Okay, technically, there's FIVE things that have "loses all abilities" in the rules text - but the other one is from Unglued so it doesn't really count. =p )

hmm Gatherer proved me wrong. I think your best bets here are either Humility , Sudden Spoiling and maybe card:Titania's Song

Ooh. Sudden Spoiling . Slipped through my search on a one-letter technicality. Good card though.

A few that haven't been mentioned (may be more recent):
Hope that helps!

Song of the Dryads is the newest in this line of enchantments. Lignify is also in the same vein. Play those on your own creatures and profit from Muraganda Petroglyphs.

You can counter activated abilities (Bind , Squelch , Voidslime ) and triggered abilities (Trickbind , Stifle ). You can prevent creatures using their activated abilities (Arrest , Ice Cage , Prison Term ). As far as I know, nothing exists yet that can stop static abilities, which is deathtouch, lifelink, intimidate etc.
