Knowledge Pool and Precursor Golems
Asked by DingoDan 13 years ago
Okay, let's say I got a Knowledge Pool and a Precursor Golem with his two golem buddies tagging along.
What happens when I cast an instant spell, targeting one of the golems? Would the spell and the two copies all be exiled, and I would be allowed to cast three cards from the pool at instant speed?

The copies would not be exiled for the same reason that a creature token doesn't go to the graveyard. the copy is cast but it disappears right after casting.

Actually, I'm pretty sure what happens depends on the order the two abilities go on the stack.
If Knowledge Pool goes on the stack first (and resolves second), then the spell is copied for each other golem, THEN the original spell is exiled and "replaced" by Knowledge pool.
If Precursor Golem goes on the stack first (and resolves second), then the spell is exiled and "replaced" first. Since it's no longer around to copy, the golem's ability does nothing.
At least, I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

You must cast the spells for them to be seen by Knowledge Pool. Casting requires mana payment and play from the hand. If this weren't the case things like Pyromancer Ascension and anything with Storm would be broken beyond reason seeing as you could just bounce spells around until you could instant kill someone.
"503.10. To copy a spell or activated ability means to put a copy of it onto the stack; a copy of a spell or ability isn't "played."
And in regards to DarkDestroyer's comment on tokens, yes they do go to the graveyard and are then removed via state based effects. Token sacrificing is made powerful do to this.

You aren't casting the copies, the copies are placed on the stack automatically. So no.
