How do lands with abilities work?
Asked by tyrannosaurusrex 14 years ago
If a land that has a special ability like tap to add mana do you get to tap that land so that you have two mana? One from the ability and one because it is a land?

Take something like Tectonic Edge
You can use it like a regular land, but for its ability cost you have to pay one mana (that isn't tectonic edge) and tap it to use its ability. Then since the card is sacrificed, it comes out of play and into your graveyard.

No.
You need to tap the land to produce the mana that is available from it.
If there is an ability to tap it to do something, then you still need to have the land untapped first before you can go ahead and use it.
