Lightning Greaves unequiped cost for reequiping other equipment.
Asked by SwiftDeath 13 years ago
i have a deck called deck:no-pong-all-ping and i use Lightning Greaves to give my creature haste and shroud does the unepuiped cost to reequiped to another creature with out shroud target the equiped creature so he can't be unequiped. i have several judges at a local get together and he told me that it targets the creature but i think it only targets the equipment please bring proof for your answer as well.
Pretty sure your judges are wrong since the comprehensive rules state that:
502.33a Equip is an activated ability of artifact Equipment cards. "Equip [cost]" means "[Cost]: Attach this Equipment to target creature you control. Play this ability only any time you could play a sorcery."
Since all you are doing is activating the ability of the Lightning Greaves the shroud on the creature it is currently equipped to does nothing.
The only thing that matters is if the creature you are looking to equip the greaves on has shroud.

Just to be clear, emphasizing something theemptyquiver hit on - there is no such thing as "unequipping" a creature. You can only equip a creature, which of course means to put the equipment on the creature. The only way to take an equipment off a creature is to equip it to another creature.

There is no un-equip cost. There is only a cost to equip creature. When you activate the cost to equip a target creature the previous creature becomes unequipped.
I don't see any other way to explain it.
Attaching the equipment does target, so the judges were certainly correct in that aspect of it, but nothing states a cost for un-equipping so it seems that they were creating something out of nothing.
As I see it, the proof is in the rule text on the card itself, right after it states Equip 0:...
