How does narcolepsy work?

Can someone explain Narcolepsy for me? It seems really good but im not sure.

Well, it works like this.

Creature is tapped at beginning of upkeep after untap. So it takes the enchanted creature out of combat and makes tap abilities a little harder to activate. (they need to decide on the ability and play it during the upkeep or lose it.) It's main use would be to disrupt creatures with vigilance or titans. Also useful to stick on the red enchantment that when a creature is tapped it deals the owner 3 damage.

I'm sure there could be other fun use :)

In sealed it's a bomb. Hope this helps

actually cardcoin, narcolepsy taps the creature at the beginning of upkeep, so..untap...(begin upkeep)...tap it...there is no time to use an ability...someone correct me if I'm wrong, but i thought that's how it worked.

Nope, I beleive I'm in the right on this one.

When the upkeep begins, the effect triggers a stack, that players can respond to. So a Birds of Paradise can tap for mana, or a Fatestitcher can tap to do it's thing. Either way, it narrows down WHEN an opponent can use a creatures ability. hence why it's such a powerful card. But an opponent CAN respond. The effect will still trigger using last known location ruling.

So it works like this. Untap > Effect triggers > (respond > Resolve >) Creature tapped.

*() = Keep going until the tap effect of Narcolepsy resolves and no other instant effects are gonna be played.

Also, take into consideration the ruling's on Narcolepsy as per Gatherer...

15/06/2010 Narcolepsy's triggered ability has an "intervening 'if' clause." That means (1) the ability triggers only if the enchanted creature is untapped as any player's upkeep begins, and (2) the ability does nothing if the enchanted creature is already tapped by the time it resolves.

15/06/2010 Narcolepsy doesn't keep the enchanted creature continually tapped. The creature untaps during its controller's untap step as normal, then is tapped when Narcolepsy's ability resolves during that upkeep. The creature may be tapped in response (for example, if it has an activated ability with T in its cost).

Hope this info helps clarify things :)

Wow, suddenly Fatestitcher Gives me an idea for a random blue/red deck... Because Narcolepsy taps during EVERY upkeep...

Lust for War is the fun card I was thinking about...

...Now, how hard/easy would it be to untap an opponents creature during their end step? :)

Ok, I know, this isn't a tier 1 deck idea. but it's a fun one non the less.

Does the creature only become tapped if it was previously tapped? Can a creature be untapped if it isn't tapped to begin with? My friend says Narcolepsy doesn't take effect until the creature becomes tapped. Is he right?
