questions reguarding vines of vastwood, groundswell, and neurok invisamancer
Asked by zigkid3 14 years ago
1) Groundswell : say i cast grounds well onto a creature. it gets +2/+2, if i then have a land trigger landfall after it, will it get the +4/+4 in addition to the 2/2, or instead of? so would it be a +4/+4, or +6/+6?
also say i use a fetch land so i trigger its landfall twice, would it then be a +8/+8 or +10/+10?
2) Vines of Vastwood and Livewire Lash : say i have a Plague Stinger attached to livewire lash. my opponent decides to Lightning Bolt him, but in response i cast a vinces-of-vastwood. due to livewire lash would i be dealing 2 or 4 damage to my opponent? since vines of vast wood would go on the stack and resolve first would that mean that it would stop the lightning bolt from targeting my plague stinger so it only deals 2 damage, or would it be 4?
3) Livewire Lash and Neurok Invisimancer :
say again i have a livewire lash attached to a plague stinger. i bring out neurok invismancer and decide to make the plague stinger unblockable. would livewire lash go off because you play creatures as spells, and then he became the target? or would it not because neurok invisimancer hits the battlefield and then ceases to be a spell and the unblockable effect is an ability.

I agree with squire1 , except for on question 2.
Livewire Lash 's ability triggers whenever the creatures becomes the target of a spell. The spell doesn't need to resolve. So, when you're opponent targets the Plague Stinger with Lightning Bolt , the Livewire Lash will trigger. At this point, Lightning Bolt will be on the bottom of the stack and Livewire Lash 's ability will be at the top of the stack.
At this point, two things can happen, which will ultimately end with the same result.
First, you can have priority pass to have the Livewire Lash 's ability resolve. Then, cast Vines of Vastwood , causing Livewire Lash 's ability to go on the stack again. The stack then goes off in reverse order: Livewire Lash 's ability will resolve, then Vines of Vastwood will resolve, then Lightning Bolt will "fizzle" since it no longer has a valid target.
Secondly, instead of letting priority pass, you can cast Vines of Vastwood . The stack will again resolve in reverse order: Livewire Lash 's ability, then Vines of Vastwood , then Livewire Lash 's ability, then Lightning Bolt fizzling.
Either way, Livewire Lash will do four damage in this scenario.

mistergreen527 is right on point 2. I think targeting must be declared as you cast a spell, unless stated otherwise. This is when Livewire Lash will trigger. So before resolution.

oddly enough i lost a draft tournament to the live wire question. I was playing against a infect deck (my deck was white red metalcraft) (i had 1 poison counter on me already) he equiped Tangle Angler with Livewire Lash kept the rest of his lands untapped and passed to me I had a Turn to Slag in my hand and was like sweet 2 for 1. worse case scenario i get hit by two poison counters. putting me at three. so i did it. Turn to Slag went on the stack he then proceeded to (all on the stack0 Grasp of Darkness the Tangle Angler then he Untamed Might the Tangle Angler for 0 then he Withstand Death the Tangle Angler and the after all of that hit me for 8 poison counters he Throne of Geth ed the live wire lash proliferating me to ten counters. Squire1 has it right on questions 1 & 3 and MisterGreen has you covered on question 2.
PS - I answered a question on Livewire Lash and Vines of Vastwood very recently. If you want to see another explanation of it you can go here:
