Does equipment stay equipped after you regerate a creature?
Asked by zigkid3 14 years ago
if you regenerate a creature that has equipment (or an aura i guess too) will the equipment still fall off of it even though it hasn't touched the graveyard. I'm still a little confused on regeneration.
for exmaple could i Lightning Bolt my own Blight Mamba which is wearing a Livewire Lash then regenerate it, will the Livewire Lash still be attached or fall off?
No it does not come off. the regenerating creature does not leave the battlefield so the equipment does not fall off.

when u regen, and someone does lethal damage to your creature..it doesnt leave the battlefield, it just becomes tapped until ur next untap step

" it just becomes tapped until ur next untap step"
Err, until the next time some other effect or mechanic (untap step or otherwise) untaps it.
I know you probably understand this wraithsmk, but for those looking for the answer to a question like this it's best to be clear that the creature is not "locked" into the tapped state until your next untap...it's just tapped when the regen shield triggers and is otherwise under no further restrictions.

Regeneration is a replacement effect. When a replacement effect happens, the game pretends the original effect never happened at all.
So the mamba regenerates - all damage is removed from it, it taps, and is removed from combat - instead of dying.
Equipment would fall off if the creature holding it went to a different zone (eg, the graveyard). As the mamba doesn't die (its death being replaced with regeneration), it doesn't move to a different zone and the lash stays equipped.
Hope that clears things up.

one more question.
since the regeneration ability causes your creature to tap, does that mean that I can not attack with a creature and regenerate it as a back up?

actually yes you can attack with a creature and still regenerate it
because regeneration just causes an untapped creature to become tapped

Sure. Tapping isn't a cost of regenerating, it's just part of the effect. If part of an effect can't be done, then it gets ignored and you move on to the next part of the effect.

I believe that the way regenerate works these days is that it acts as a shield. When your opponant castsLightning Bolt you may activate your regeneration shield, meaning that the next time that it would die it does not. So since it does not then it just stays right where it was with its equipment on it.
