Silence vs Consume the Meek

Asked by Brutalise 13 years ago

So here's the situation.

It's my turn. I have enough soldiers to destroy my mono black oppenent as long as I use Brave the Elements and say Pro Black for all of them, doing the exact amount of damage needed to win the match. I know he has Consume the Meek, so at the start of my upkeep I use silence, then I go into my attack phase, then use brave the elements and attack.

Since I used Silence on my upkeep, does that mean since I moved to my attack phase and he didn't use Consume the Meek during my upkeep, does silence resolve and nothing can be played now, allowing me to win the game?

At the beginning of your upkeep, if you cast Silence , your opponent can respond with Consume the Meek . If he chooses not to act and allows Silence to resolve, then he can not cast Consume the Meek (or any other spell) during your turn. You could then cast Brave the Elements for protection from black and attack for the win.

If he didn't cast Consume the Meek before Silence resolved, then he lost his chance. You may play Brave the Elements and swing for the win. Silence resolved all the way back in upkeep, you moved to first main, did nothing, moved to combat, attacked, and won.

In other words, yes, you're right. If your opponent let Silence through without casting Consume, he's toast.
