Sleight of Mind ruling?
Asked by Zylo 14 years ago
Sleight of Mind changes the text of one color to another, I know this. My initial thought was "Oooh... so if I use this on a Darkest Hour I could make all creatures green, or white, or even red!"
Buuuuut, I read rulings on it and this is one that made me question if my initial thought would work.
"10/4/2004: It only changes what is printed on the card (or set on a token when it was created or set by a copy effect). It will not change any effects that are on the permanent"
Sooooo.... Does that make it so even if I make Darkest Hour read "All creatures are red," the creatures are not all red and instead they are all still black?

I agree with kabrazell. I couldn't have put it any better. I tried, and it kept on getting wordy and confusing. Anyways, I think kabrazell is correct.

Alright, thanks a lot! I'm thinking of making a deck that uses Darkest Hour but using creatures with protection from blue or red or green or something and changing darkest hour to fit my protection.

This one is tough! I might be wrong but here's my interpretation of the ruling.
Say I target your Darkest Hour with a card:Nature's Claim and in response, you want to Sleight of Mind it and change the text. In some peoples' minds this would be like changing Darkest Hour into a completely new card, one that is NOT the target of card:Nature's Claim.
The ruling simply states that changing the text on the card won't change the result of such interactions, because you aren't changing the card, you're simply changing it's text.
