Stealing Wurm-spawn?

Asked by jerseymtg 14 years ago

If I Mark of Mutiny/Act of Treason/Traitorous Instinct a Wurmcoil Engine and then destroy/sacrifice it while it's still on my side, do I get to permanently keep the two 3/3's that it creates when it dies?

Yes, why wouldn't you? What would cause you not to?

good questions, all around. Yes, you would keep them, you control the wurm when it goes to the graveyard you get the tokens, which do not have the "until end of turn" clause. You keep em.

Wurmcoil Engine

112.8. The controller of an activated ability on the stack is the player who activated it. The controller of a triggered ability on the stack (other than a delayed triggered ability) is the player who controlled the abilitys source when it triggered, or, if it had no controller, the player who owned the abilitys source when it triggered.

I think this means the owner of thr Wurm gets the tokens, since the ability triggers when it is actually placed in the graveyard, and at that point it is either under the control of it's owner, or under no-one's control which means the owner gets the effect (not 100% on how "control" relates to graveyards). I know that's how I've always played it with friends, when someone stole a Sprouting Thrinax and it died somehow.
