token creatures

Asked by btmankin 14 years ago

I am trying to put a EDH token deck together and was wondering about Coat of Arms . The cards I am using generally say put an amount of creature tokens onto the BG. Do tokens count as a creature type since cards list their type by saying (creature - angel) Emeria Angel ? and the cards I'm using says put so many (creature tokens) into play?

Most if not all tokens do have a creature type and are effected by Coat of Arms as all creatures are.

In the case you described, the creature tokens that Emeria Angel produces have a creature subtype of (bird). So if you have 2 of these tokens on the battlefield they are both 2/2s. If you have 3 tokens, they are all 3/3s, etc. These are also effected by any other bird subtype creatures that may be in play. These do not share a type with the angel and hence it does not get a bonus from Coat of Arms .

I think that your original question was asking if (token) is its own subtype. To that the answer is no. Token is not a subtype. Token creatures are assigned specific subtypes from the text of the source/card that generated them.

If it does not specify a type on the card, check the oracle text for the card as Wizards likely fixed that problem, if not then the tokens would have no creature subtype.
