What are the limits on an infinite combo in tournaments?

What are the rulings on going infinite in tournaments? Is it allowed as long as you don't be a total ass about it?
It depends on what kind of infinite. If it's the kind where you're doing the same thing over and over again (Filigree Sages Training Grounds Khalni Gem or Ruin Ghost Tideforce Elemental Lotus Cobra ) you can just define a certain number of times you are going to do it, usually somewhere in the billions. If it's a loop that can't be stopped (only example I can think of is 3 Oblivion Ring s in play and nothing else) the game ends in a draw.

In tourney.
You First show the combo.
Then wait for a judge call
Show combo again.
If ok, then define number of times controlable combo goes on for. uncontrolible combo results in round being a draw.
If combo not ok. Then waste times finding out why...

The rules are quite complicated in this area and they do handle all scenarios I've come acrossed.
Unfortunately, to answer the question better a more specific scenario would be required.

voluntary infinite combo (garden-variety infinite mana/creature/damage/etc. combo): a combo with either a 'may' ability or something that requires a payment or an activated ability. These are fine, you can repeat any arbitrarily large number of times - most opponents will just let you name a number, if they won't just ask a judge and they'll let you.
involuntary infinite loop (3 Faceless Butcher as the only creatures in play...er, they're not all in play, you get the idea): if neither player is capable of stopping the infinite loop, the game is called a draw.

Uncontrolled infinity reactions end the game as far as I understand, forcing a draw. If your infinity combo is controllable, simply generate a defined, but absurdly large number.
